Adv. Somnath Mondal

ABOUT ME AND MY COMMITMENT

I am Adv. Somnath Mondal, a practising advocate at Barasat and the nearby courts. Like most of you, I come to court every day with responsibility on my shoulders. Responsibility towards clients, towards the court, and towards our profession.

Over the years, I have learned a few simple things. Knowledge in law should be shared with juniors, not kept for own as it will go forever if the brain dies and the flow of knowledge will not flow. And a Bar Association should always stand beside its members, not remain distant.

Along with my regular legal work, I stayed connected with Bar activities and legal writing. In my work and in my blogs. Not to look different, but because law works best when it is understood. Big words may sound nice, but clear words help more.

With your support, I earlier got the chance to work in the Executive Committee of our Bar. Together, we worked on many important things. We contributed to the creation of the District Bar Association website. We helped advocates with BCI compliance and mandatory forms. We were part of setting up the E-Library at the Bar Association. We took part in revising the Bar Association Constitution. We helped organise legal workshops and worked to improve library books and resources.

None of these were personal achievements. These were things we did together, as members of the Bar, for the benefit of everyone.

If you give me the responsibility of General Secretary, I will work with one clear thought in mind. No advocate should feel unheard or unsupported.

I want to work for health and medical security for advocates, so that no family feels helpless during illness or emergency. I want the E-Library to grow further, with better digital resources and easy access. Regular practical workshops are important, especially for daily court work. Transparent Bar administration also matters, with clear notices and honest communication. Our library needs strong support with updated books and better study space. And when professional problems arise, members should feel that the Bar is standing with them, not silent.

I am not promising miracles. I know real work takes time. But I do promise sincerity, responsibility, and steady effort.

As a lawyer, I always believed law should help, not confuse. Through my writing and discussions, I tried to explain legal issues clearly. Not to impress anyone, but to support fellow lawyers and litigants. I strongly feel that juniors need guidance, not judgment. Seniors deserve respect and strong support. And our Bar can move forward only when we move together.

This is how I see my role as a lawyer. This is how I wish to serve the Bar, with your trust and support.
